OpenClaw 2026.3.8 — Backup Commands, Remote Token Flow, and Channel Reliability Fixes

OpenClaw 2026.3.8 adds built-in backup/verify commands, improves remote gateway onboarding on macOS, and ships a large set of channel and browser reliability fixes.

March 9, 2026

OpenClaw 2026.3.8 is an operator-friendly release focused on backup tooling and day-to-day reliability.

What was included

New backup workflow in CLI

  • openclaw backup create
  • openclaw backup verify

With support for:

  • --only-config
  • --no-include-workspace
  • archive manifest/payload validation
  • improved backup naming and verification behavior

Onboarding and UX improvements

  • macOS remote mode onboarding adds explicit remote gateway token field and safer token-shape handling.
  • talk mode gains configurable silence timeout via talk.silenceTimeoutMs.
  • TUI can infer active agent from workspace context (while preserving explicit targets).

Search/tooling updates

  • Brave web search optional llm-context mode for grounded snippet extraction.
  • web search provider ordering and docs consistency updates.
  • ACP provenance metadata + receipt controls.

Reliability fixes (selected)

  • LaunchAgent/update recovery improvements on macOS
  • Telegram DM dedupe and announce-delivery routing fixes
  • Matrix DM routing fallback hardening
  • plugin onboarding cache/selection fixes
  • browser relay/CDP URL handling hardening
  • Tailscale gateway discovery improvements on macOS
  • model fallback/context-window compatibility fixes (including openai-codex GPT-5.4 handling)

Why this matters for OpenClaw VPS

For hosted operators, 2026.3.8 mainly means:

  1. better recoverability (real backup + verify commands),
  2. cleaner remote gateway onboarding,
  3. fewer channel routing/delivery edge cases.
