Answers to the questions people ask before and after they launch

The hosted product is meant to remove infrastructure burden without hiding the tradeoffs. These answers stay focused on what OpenClaw VPS actually ships today.

Getting Started

The basics of getting your first hosted bot working quickly.

What is OpenClaw VPS?+

OpenClaw VPS is the managed hosted path for OpenClaw. You bring your own model key, and we handle the server, updates, recovery, and day-to-day operations around your bot.

What is the fastest way to get value from my first bot?+

Create the bot, add your AI key, open web chat, and test one simple workflow first. Leave Telegram, private networking, and deeper tuning for after the bot is already answering correctly.

What is the best OpenClaw VPS setup path?+

Create the bot, add your AI provider key, test public web chat, try one real task, then add Telegram after the bot already answers correctly. Use private web chat on paid bots only when the workflow needs private access.

How is OpenClaw VPS different from other OpenClaw hosts?+

OpenClaw VPS focuses on one useful hosted bot first: private server, 7-day Pro trial, $20/month cap after trial, BYOK, public web chat, Telegram, private web chat on paid bots, and human help for setup, billing, monitoring, and recovery.

Which channels are live today?+

Public web chat and Telegram are live now, and private web chat through Tailscale is available on paid bots. Slack, Discord, WhatsApp, and iMessage are not live hosted channels today.

Do I need Tailscale to use OpenClaw VPS?+

No. Most customers should start with public web chat. Tailscale is only needed when you want private web chat or access to private resources through your own network.

Billing

Trial timing, pricing, and what you are actually billed for.

How does pricing work?+

Your first bot starts with a 7-day Pro trial. After that, Pro is $20 per bot per month, based on how long each bot stays hosted until it is destroyed. Running and paused bots both count, up to the full monthly amount.

Does hosted billing include AI provider charges?+

No. Hosted billing covers running and supporting the bot. AI provider charges stay on your own provider account through BYOK.

Why do you collect a payment method before the trial starts?+

It keeps the handoff from trial to paid service simple if you choose to keep the bot running. If you cancel before paid billing begins, the bot is removed after the trial ends.

Can I see my usage time and cost so far?+

Yes. The dashboard shows estimated monthly base pricing plus usage time and estimated cost so far for the current billing period, and the billing page breaks usage down by month and by bot.

Security & Privacy

How OpenClaw VPS handles privacy, private access, and operational risk.

Does each bot get its own server?+

Yes. Each hosted bot gets its own private server so the runtime stays isolated and easier to reason about.

How does private web chat work?+

Paid bots can join your own Tailscale network. That gives you a private `*.ts.net` web address for internal access while keeping the public web path and Telegram behavior separate.

How are file attachments handled?+

OpenClaw VPS is moving all attachment handling behind one scan-and-quarantine pipeline so uploads stay pending until they are cleared. Dangerous file types stay blocked outright, and suspicious files are quarantined instead of exposed.

Who owns the AI provider key?+

You own the provider key. OpenClaw VPS uses BYOK so available AI models, usage limits, provider billing, and key rotation stay tied to your provider account instead of being mixed into hosting.

Do you have access to my conversations?+

Support staff should only access customer data for support, operational recovery, or security reasons tied to the service. The goal of the hosted product is to reduce infrastructure burden without turning your bot into a shared public sandbox.

Support

Where to get help and how the new support flow works.

How do I get help if something feels stuck?+

Use the support area in the customer portal, start a support chat, or email [email protected]. Portal support tickets are the best path for setup, billing, and account issues because the thread stays attached to your bot context.

What happens when support replies to my ticket?+

You get an email from [email protected] with a direct link back to the exact ticket in the customer portal, and the full thread stays visible inside the portal.

Can support issues move from chat into a ticket?+

Yes. The product is being updated so both admins and customers can open a support ticket from chat when a longer-running issue needs tracking, files, or follow-up across sessions.

What does support actually help with?+

Support covers setup, BYOK, billing, channels, private networking, attachments, and operational issues like deployments, restarts, or repeated failures. Custom development is a separate conversation, not part of standard support.
